In maths we will again be learning through a story, This story will be The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. We will begin the half term by looking at number and place value and move on to fraction and shape in preparation for our final year 1 assertive mentoring tests.
We will be learning maths this term through our two story boxes,' The Jolly Postman' and 'People Who Help Us'. Through these boxes we will look at number and place value, and solving problems using all four operations.
We will spend another week looking at place value and then we will move onto shape, position and direction. We are all very good at shape and look forward to the challenges in store for us!
We will spend the first week of this short term re-visiting number and place value. We will then spend the remaining weeks looking at RUCSAC and using it to help us solve word problems. We will spend a week on each operation, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This will prepare us for solving problems in our Assertive Mentoring test at the end of this term.
We will kick off the second half of the Autumn term by spending time looking back over our Assertive Mentoring test from last term. This forms the 'mentoring' part of the testing system and helps children to understand where they may have had difficulties.
We will then move onto looking at measuring and fractions on the run up to Christmas!
In maths this half term we will be looking at reading and writing numbers to 100, one more and one less and place value.
We will begin to look at the four methods of calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
