Welcome to Woodpeckers
We've had an amazing WOW start to both Year 4 and our new topic of Flight. The children have settled well and really enjoyed a trip around the world on our first afternoon back. After checking our boarding passes and passports we flew off to mystery destinations and had to find the clues to reveal that we had visited; New York, Rio and Cairo. What a start!
We've been enjoying reading James and The Giant Peach, which has provided a basis for our Guided Reading activities as well as the stimulus for writing adventure stories in English.
Maths has been going back to basics and moving on in our knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction, mastering the column methods and using them to solve 1 and 2 step problems.
We've had great fun studying Forces in Science, planning our own fair investigation to test parachutes. We've investigated whether the; material, size and shape affect the way they work and even the size of holes within the canopy!
History has been a fascinating tour back through the history of flight and we are researching different modes of flight transport in order to make information posters that we can present to each other.
All of that and we've even begun making our own hot air balloons out of paper mache.
We are really looking forward to our trip to Duxford to end this fantastic topic.
We had great fun making and testing our parachutes for our Science Investigation!
