On behalf of Mrs Birch, Mrs Cave, Mrs Conroy and myself, I wanted to say a huge thank you for all the wonderful gifts and kind words we received at the end of term. We have so enjoyed working with you and your children this year and have built up excellent relationships with them all. I know we will miss their smiley faces next year, yet we feel confident they are ready to step into year 2.

WHAT A LOVELY DAY!
We all had a fabulous time in Hunstanton with some glorious sunshine. Thank you to everyone who ensured their children had sun cream and hats and everything they needed to make the day a success. The children were delightful and were calm and un-flustered as our first coach had a burst tyre! What an exciting end to our trip! The driver handled it splendidly and the children were quickly taken off the coach onto the new one which arrived very swiftly. We are all very proud of our year 1 children.
NEW TOPIC LAUNCH- I SEE THE SEA!
HUNSTANTON HERE WE COME!
On Monday 6th June we will be launching our final topic of the year, I See The Sea. We will be spending the day in Hunstanton visiting the Sealife Centre and the beach. And yes, of course we will have a paddle in the sea! Fingers crossed for a sunny day!
Don't forget you will need:
A small hand towel
A packed lunch
Plenty of water
Suncream (applied before you leave home)
A raincoat (just in case!!!)
All children need to be in school at 8.30am and we will return to school by 4.00pm.
We can't wait!
CROXTON PARK FARM
Today year 1 went on a special visit to neighbouring Croxton Park Farm. We had an amazing time learning about all the animals on the farm and how the farmer looks after them. We were also told about which animals the food we eat comes from. Mrs Day couldn't believe how much everyone learnt from spending just two hours on the farm.
The highlight of the morning was spending time feeding the orphaned lambs. We couldn't believe how hungry they were! Hedgehogs were extra lucky and actually saw a lamb being born! (Mrs Day was very jealous as Butterflies had only missed it by a few minutes!).
Exciting news! Forest Friday is now happening in year 1!
Last Friday we put on our wellies and warm clothes and asked the woods if we could come in! We listened to the birds reply and spent the afternoon under the watchful eye of our Forest Leader Mrs Halls. All the children enjoyed exploring the environment and readily took on the challenge of creating 'something' with only string, sticks and scissors! Fishing rods, crosses, dolls and much, much more were created using our brilliant imaginations.
We will now be visiting the forest every Friday afternoon. We just can't wait!
Food Glorious Food
Our new topic has been successfully launched with a fabulous wow day! The day kicked off by reading Biscuit Bear by Mini Grey, which is our new text for English and Maths. We then spent an hour in our class rooms transforming biscuits into bears, decorating cupcakes and wedding cakes and creating gingerbread bears.
After break time, we went to the DT room and whipped up some Mexican salsa and nachos! We were all carefully prepared the ingredients and mastered the bridge method of cutting.
During the afternoon we held our International Café, where parents and staff had kindly made dishes from all around the world for us to taste. All in all, we visited 11 different countries and sampled delights such as Iranian stew, Chinese noodles, Scottish shortbread and Italian meatballs and pasta and Indian samosas.
We had such a great day and all went home feeling very full up!
Butterflies would like to say a big thank you to all those parents, carers and staff who kindly donated delicacies for us to try
Year 1 are looking forward to visiting Croxton Park Farm to feed the newly born lambs at the end of March. Please make sure you have returned your slip by Friday 26th February so that we can confirm our booking.
On Monday 22nd February year 1 will be holding an International Café. We will be making some of the food ourselves but would really appreciate the opportunity to experience food from around the world. If you are able to contribute, either by coming in during the afternoon, or simply by sending some food in, we would really appreciate it. We would like to give the children the chance to sample as many different types of food as possible.
Thanking you in advance!
A huge thank you to all the Butterflies parents that came to our recent phonics open sessions. We hope that you found it useful seeing the children participate in phonics activities in the classroom. Many of these activities could be copied at home and will really support the children's learning,
Here are just some of the pictures of our fabulous learning!
Last week we made a passport and flew on a magic carpet to icy lands! All to launch our new topic 'Frozen'. We spent the day making hot warming soup, we sewed cosy mittens, built igloos, melted Elsa's hands, made paper snowmen and built cotton wool igloos! It was such a busy day. We all went home feeling very tired after all our travelling!
On Wednesday 13th January from 9-10am you will have the opportunity to see phonics in action. There will be half an hour of watching phonics activities in the classroom and a half an hour presentation on how phonics is taught at Jeavons Wood. The presentation will be repeated at 6pm on Thursday 14th January.
We do hope you will attend one of these presentations as we feel it will be extremely beneficial in supporting your children to learn their letters and sounds. Please complete the reply slip, indicating which day you wish to attend, on the letter that your children bought home last week.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We have been writing our New Years resolutions! Some of us are thinking about healthy eating and exercise (Mrs Day needs to stop eating cake!) and some of us are going to work really hard on our writing skills!
MATHS MEASURE DAY
Emperor Zurg invited year 1 to a picnic to apologise for stealing our toys! We were so excited spending the morning using our measuring skills to prepare flap jacks, smoothies and milkshakes. We also built the longest wall, tested how far the toy cars could travel down the tube, maeasured and made ourselves and built the tallest junk towers! Some of us even made a magic super power potion from dragons blood and toads snot!
During the afternoon we waited patiently for Zurg to arrive....... but he didn't turn up!!! We are now writing letters to warn other Cambourne schools that Zurg is still on the run!!
TOYNAPPING AT JEAVONS WOOD!!!!
On Friday we came to school and our beloved toys had gone missing!!!! Mrs Day was cross because someone had trashed her tidy classroom........... and their were glitter footprints leading to the culprit. We all put on our police helmets, grabbed our note pads and began to investigate the crime.
CCTV images were sent to us to put us on the right trail. It would seem that our toys had been having fun in the school during the night! Captain America even took a shower in the staff water cooler!
Finding a clue in our classroom lead us to discovering the eventual fate of our toys.......
They had been locked in the KS1 shed all night!!!! Naughty Emperor Zurg!!!!
ANDY GOLDSWORTHY INSPIRED SCULPTURES
Please come and see our Andy Goldsworthy inspired art in our outside area straight after school on Tuesday 6th October.
BUTTERFLIES CLASS ASSEMBLY!
Friday 16th October 9am
Please come and see all that we have been working so hard on, in our class assembly!
CONGRATULATIONS CLASS COUNCILLORS!
Congratulations to Lewis and Lily who have been voted in as Butterflies class councillors! Their class mates chose them because they think they will be great at sharing the ideas of Butterflies class with the whole school council.
URGENT- CONKERS NEEDED!
We urgently need conkers, pine cones, dried twigs, pebbles etc, for our Andy Goldsworthy inspired art sculptures. We will be putting these together during our art lessons over the next few weeks and need lots of resource to be able to do this. We will soon hold an exhibition of our work so that our friends and family can see our creative skills.
All children need to have their full PE kit in school all week. This should include; shorts, t shirt, tracksuit (top and bottoms) and trainers suitable for wearing outside. We are fortunate enough to have a specialist football teacher working with us this term but for this to happen we need all children to have their PE kit in school. Thank you.
